FORTY 2 DAYS (The Billionaire Banker) by @GeorgiaLeCarre #Erotica #Romance #MustRead

Billie is right.  My position is untenable.  In his eyes I must be the worst kind of slut.  Ahead lies only more misunderstanding and pain for both of us.  The pain has already begun, a physical ache.  It fills my chest.  I can never tell him the truth.  In his mind I will always be his bad romance.  Lady Gaga singing, ‘I want your ugly.  I want your disease.’
‘I’m sorry, but I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement,’ I say, with the full knowledge that without the truth he will always despise me.  I lean back in my chair feeling soiled.  I will never again be clean in his eyes.  And there is not a damn thing I can do about it.   The waiter returns with more whiskey.
‘I know you’re angry but—’
‘Shut the fuck up.  You have no idea,’ he grates through gritted teeth.
I close my mouth.  I have never seen him so openly angry.  He is always so controlled, so smooth.  Even when he was once angry with someone on the phone his fury was so tightly leashed, so frighteningly quiet that I stood stock still behind the door listening.
He shoots his whiskey aggressively, and turning the empty glass on its edge rolls it on the tablecloth.  ‘Do you want more food?’
I shake my head miserably.  This is turning out to be nothing like I imagined.
A muscle in his jaw twitches.  He calls for the bill.
Someone in a suit comes rushing to his side.  ‘Is anything the matter?’ he enquires worriedly.
‘Everything is fine.’  He looks at me hard and deep.
‘But your main course…’
Blake does not take his eyes off me.  ‘I have unfinished business to take care of, Anton.’
I flush badly and Anton slips away with impressive speed from that which has nothing to do with him.  Another waiter, his face schooled into impassive professionalism, comes bearing the bill.  Blake signs for it, unfolds himself out of his chair and comes to stand by me.  I get to my feet and he leads me out of the restaurant.  We do not touch except for his hand splayed on the small of my back.  Possessive, the way only a husband’s hand should be.
Not a word is spoken by either of us in the car, but every cell in my body is responding to his nearness.  My desire for him is such that my hands are clenched tight against my thighs and my sex is actually throbbing.  In fact, the need is so excessive it is almost violent.  I sneak a look at him.  He is staring ahead, the chiseled cheekbones like stone, but that muscle in his throat is ticking like a time bomb.  I know that tick.  It tells me what he cannot, how hard and deep he wants to fuck me.  He is well and truly snared inside his bad romance.
‘What happened to all the clothes I left behind?’ I ask in the lift.
‘You enquire about last season’s fashions?  What about the people you left behind, Lana?  Why don’t you enquire about them?  Me for instance.’
‘How have you been, Blake?’
‘You’re just about to find out,’ he replies with a nasty grin.
Beyond the seductive power of immense wealth lies… Dark Secrets
Devastatingly handsome billionaire, Blake Law Barrington was Lana Blooms first and only love. From the moment they touched his power was overwhelming. Their arrangement quickly developed into a passionate romance that captivated her heart and took her on an incredible sexual journey she never wanted to end.
The future together looked bright until Lana made a terrible mistake. So, she did the only thing she could… she ran.
Away from her incredible life, away from the man of her dreams, but she should have known a man such as Blake Law Barrington was impossible to escape. Now, he’s back in her life and determined that she should taste the bitterness of his pain.
Shocked at how rough the sex has become and humiliated that she is actually participating so willingly in her punishment, she despairs if she will ever feel the warmth of his touch–the solidity of his trust again? And even if she can win his trust, loyalties are yet to be decided, and secrets to be revealed–secrets that will test them both to their limits.
Will Lana be able to tear down the walls that surround Blake’s heart, and break him free of the brutal power of immense wealth?
Can Blake hold on to Lana’s heart when she discovers the enormity of the dark secrets that inhabit the Barrington family?
Lana has always believed that love conquers all. She is about to test that belief…

#ReviewShare #Fantasy - The Soul of the World (Legends of Amun Ra, #2) by @JG_Silverman

The Soul of the World (Legends of Amun Ra, #2)The Soul of the World by Joshua Silverman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Some chapters of the book were a too wordy for me but far better than some fantasy books where the plot is lost in a tumble of cliches and jargon. The Soul of the World is just as exciting as the first book in the Legends of AmunRa series. There are a lot of details to remember and the author has included guides in the beginning which helps a lot.

I’m definitely in love with this series and its special cast of characters. What really stood out for me was character development. Leoros is forced into a situation he does not want to be but the fact that he does not give up was a much needed lesson for himself and for the other characters.

Atlantia worked in some ways and didn’t work in others. Some of her actions seemed forced and didn’t fit. Some minor errors were also found in the book. For example, “Kevin aughed. “So what happened?” but to me these errors were not to the point that I could enjoy the rest of the story.
Definitely a good read for any fantasy fan.

#ReviewShare #BookReview #Children - Is the Seawater Always Blue? by @ShabanaMuhajir

Is the Seawater Always Blue?Is the Seawater Always Blue? by Shabana Dastageer Muhajir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I know children love to experiment and ask questions about the world they are in, my nephews and nieces ask the strangest of questions, always to satisfy their curiosity. Many things about this book I liked. It discussed a simple theory about sea water in an easy to understand manner. This book serves as an excellent resource for parents and homeschoolers.

The presentation however can be much better. If you look at my previous reviews, I am highly critical of book covers for the simple reason, I do not know the author. I do not know anything about the book. The one thing I have as a deciding factor about the book is the cover and only then do I choose to read the description.

In this case, the author has likely taken one of her own photos, resized it in Microsoft Word, plonked text on it and called it a cover. No. Just no. The end result is that the children on the cover look like the aliens from the TV Series, Taken.

You have poured your heart and soul into a work to be showcased to the rest of the world or at least 9 countries by Amazon’s standards, please for all that is holy, have a good eye-catching cover. The cat man knows for a fact that a good book cover won’t cost you an arm and a leg and that he is not the only one who is so pedantic about book covers.

#ReviewShare #BookReview #Paranormal - Cast in Blood by Michelle Rabe @MichRabe

Cast in BloodCast in Blood by Michelle Rabe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Aside from the vampires, I loved the mystery and suspense this book had. The author has a fantastic way of building up a scene to the point you cannot breathe and you’re not sure if Morgan will make it through. My favourite scene was the discussion she has with Nicholas and he thinks, “Gods know I want and need whatever information she can give, but now is not the time. The fever seems to worsen when she gets stressed or fearful. I’d rather have that under control before I question her.”

Morgan as a main character was sizzling and I absolutely fell in love with her. This was definitely a sizzling escape into the supernatural. The author did an awesome job on all counts and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

The Bully Barn: A Lesson For Bullies, Bystanders and VictimsThe Bully Barn: A Lesson For Bullies, Bystanders and Victims by Robert Gioia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Social media is accessible to the youngest of children today. Despite the age recommendations and minor checking systems, children are able to bypass this. What does this is create a playground for bullies and more books like these are needed to highlight to children the cons of bullying.

While some parents are a bit wary of anti-bullying messages, proper tools and guidance can ensure that kids do not become bullies. I also think this is the most important phase to sow anti-bullying messages, when they are children.

Using colourful illustrations that come to life, the author concentrates on social skills and bullying. This is definitely a highly recommended book for children and caregivers.

#ReviewShare #BookReview #YALit - Haunted by @EileenMaksym

HauntedHaunted by Eileen Maksym
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked the cover very much and after reading the book realise the creepy dark eyed creature in the background of the cover. Haunted was a really interesting book. It had a bit of a slow start. The introduction was also puzzling. While the author attributes AP as a news source there is no date or timeline as to when this report was written. This made me think of whether it is real or not? When I searched on Google nothing was found which then makes me wonder if the author should have not included a real news agency or indicated that the report was part of the fictional story.

Haunted was also mysterious which worked great for me because that left some room for me to be surprised. The surprise elements created a lot of appeal for me. The twists and turns meant that not all characters were being honest and were part of the story more than they were letting on.

My favourite part of the book was the bond between Tara and her father. I think the bond some of us have with our parents last a lifetime and although it can’t be explained, some parents look out for their children long after they are gone. The discussion about Paul and Tara kissing was a little childish and this occasionally happened in other parts of the book as well. Other than this tiny flaw, I was able to lose myself in the pages and liked the book very much.

HJ Lawson Dissects #Twitter Interactions for Authors @hjlawson1 #AmWriting #PubTip

9:30 AM Posted by Quality Reads UK , , , 1 comment
I attended a New York Writers Workshop in November; The Pitch Conference; one of the speakers John Cusick from Greenhouse publishing recommended that you build a social platform. He said that had tried blogging, and it wasn't for him; but twitter seemed to work for him, he had 6998 followers.

Sitting at the conference wondering how I would build my social platform when I was not able to speak about my book, because at this point; I had just begun my queries into how to get it published.
Leaving the conference with a new insight into the writing world; I continued to write, edit, delete and repeat. The idea of building my social network was always in the back of my head.

socialnet

Fast forward to January, book one complete, and currently with one agent and two publishing houses. What if they don't pick up my book? This crossed my mind again and again, so I decided it was time to build my social network. Time to prepare for self-publishing.

I set myself an ultimatum; if I don't hear back for the agent or publishing house by April; I will begin the self-publishing process. I needed to raise money to get my book professionally edited; so I decided to try Kickstarters to help me raise the funds. Crowd funding only works well when you have a crowd to work with; I needed to build a social network.

I tried starting with a blog and I it was taking too much time; I work full time as a designer, and have an active 5 year old little girl. I didn't have time to blog, and my first novel needed editing, I have the typo/grammar curse.

My current schedule allows me fourteen hours a week; twelve hours spent on the new book and two on marketing, meaning I have to plan my time wisely.

In the past, I had signed up for Twitter, but never understood the reason behind it, but I thought I would give it a try with a fresh perspective. Signing up with my pen name, and began to follower writers and indie writers for writing tips etc. After a few days, I became addicted and followed more people who had the same interests as me.

Within three weeks of being on twitter, I had 1835 followers, one of my tweets retweeted 303 times and I have posted 466 tweets with writing tips from authors. I spent 10 minutes in the morning, tweeting/retweeting and following back. Not a bad start.

Today I have 9000 followers, which took around 4 months. From twitter, I have gained knowledge from other authors, received help and motivation tips, and some of my twitter followers have begun to follow me on Facebook.

Tip 1 - once you get to 2000 follows you are blocked from adding more, in the evening I delete 100 people which are not following me back on www.justunfollow.com (100 per day is free).

Tip 2 – Follow people that you find interesting, it’s not all about the numbers it is about the content of the tweets from the people you are following.

Tip 3 - Try converting Twitter fans into Facebook fans; because it is easier to build a fan base quickly on Twitter without paying for it, unlike Facebook.

Tip 4 – Remember it is a social platform, be social and don’t constantly tweet ‘buy my book’

Tip 5 – Find the social network platform that works for you, and stick at it.

Reviews from Wattpad

Very interesting story, very powerful. I can really feel the emotion...Peter

This book really touches my heart because there is so much truth is in this book. The detail is so brilliantly displayed, its beautifuly written. There are pretty intense chapters, its good... scrap that its excellent. Loe the work ...although I am upset. I know this is a fictional story, but I just can't help but feel extremely bad for all the lost lives especially the innocent and young ones...Saddy

@KirstenArcadio Asks What If a Quantum Tectonic Event Split Our Reality? #Speculative #Thriller

What if a quantum tectonic event split our reality?

So that different versions of ourselves appeared from an alternate universe, to show us what our lives could have been had we made different choices, or what we might become, should we change our behaviour right now?

As Werner Heisenberg said,

‘Atoms or elementary particles themselves are not real; they form a world of potentialities or possibilities rather than one of things or facts.’

What if our lives were made up of infinite possibilities, all of which were happening simultaneously, until the observer – you – decided to pin one down? One choice, one life.

In my latest novel, Split Symmetry, I explore all of these questions – and more – against the exciting backdrop of a mysterious Italian mountain range. Find out what happens when Dr Elena Lewis and a group of her friends become embroiled in the worst earthquake the region has known mixed up with a quantum event that changes their lives for ever.

How do they escape? Can Elena save her friends? Can she save herself? And when she crosses into a reality she cannot conceive of, what does she make of it?

Set in the near future, Split Symmetry [getBook.at/SplitSymmetry] is the story of what happens when a hike in the notorious Gran Sasso mountain range in central Italy descends into chaos on the same night that scientists decide to work on a clandestine experiment in a lab beneath the mountain. Dr Elena Lewis must work around the clock to find members of her group who have become lost on the mountain, but just as she is close to finding them, the region is rocked by one of the worst earthquakes central Italy has ever known.

Author bio:

Kirsten Arcadio has written three novels, each with a different speculative theme. Her first novel, Borderliners, was published in February of this year with the second in the series, Split Symmetry, to be published in July. The third, WorldCult, is due out just before Christmas. She’s also a part-time poet, digital communications nerd and frazzled head of an Anglo-Italian family.

After working for over fifteen years in digital communications, she returned to her twin first loves, literature and philosophy, in 2011. She’s passionate about the big questions in life and how these can be explored using speculative fiction.

When she’s not writing she’s obsessing about Sci Fi or Nordic noir. She loves all things Italian, including her husband, and she once taught English in the Italian senate.

Young Knights of the Round Table: The King's Ransom #Excerpt by Cheryl Carpinello #Tween #Adventure

The late afternoon sun still held the day’s heat. Philip set the ax down and wiped his brow before getting a drink of water. Across the valley, the walls of Pembroke Castle rose. Its gates stood open, although they were heavily guarded. Come dusk, those gates would be closed, and more than the usual number of knights would be on the parapets. Rumors had spread of the murder and theft this morning.

Since then, the village had been on edge. Farmers didn’t stray far from their fields and kept their children close to home. Additional knights patrolled Pembroke village and the surrounding lands.

Philip had watched the king and his knights ride out this morning. Gavin hadn’t been among them. They had returned just a short while ago. If the shouts from the castle were any indication, the murderer had been caught. The villagers would rest easy tonight, but the guard wouldn’t be dropped. Until it was known for sure that the culprit had acted on his own, King Wallace would keep extra knights on duty.

Philip had never spoken to the king, but he admired him. The people of Pembroke had not turned him away that cold winter day a year ago. Instead, they offered him shelter and protection. With the consent of the king, the friar gave him a home in the church. In return, Philip helped the friar in the fields and with other chores, grateful for a safe place to stay.

Looking at the stack of chopped wood, he smiled sadly. Two years ago he would never have dreamed he’d be here, chopping wood for food and a dry place to sleep. He shook his head at his thoughts, his shaggy, ill-cut black hair falling unevenly across his forehead. Two years. It seemed like forever.

Two years earlier, he had lived with his parents and baby brother on their small farm up north. His parents worked hard to put food on the table and to pay off the farm. Philip’s main job was to watch baby Benjamin while his mother helped his father in their small field. When Benjamin fell sick, Philip helped his father clear the old stalks and rocks from the soil while his mother nursed the baby. He helped his father carefully plant the winter wheat and barley for harvest in the spring.

As autumn slipped into winter, Benjamin hadn’t gotten better. His tiny body burned with fever. Those last few days when Philip held him, the heat coming from Benjamin threatened to slowly engulf him like the embers of a dying fire.

Then one day, the heat drained from Benjamin’s body, and cold took its place. Philip didn’t understand at first why his mother and father cried. For days they’d waited for the fever to leave, and finally it had. Then he noticed the stillness of Benjamin’s body. His small chest didn’t rise and fall; he wasn’t breathing. Along with the heat, life had also left the tiny body.

They buried Benjamin under a layer of straw in the small ditch next to the cottage, dressed in his little clothes, his body wrapped tightly in a blanket. Philip wept openly beside his parents, not ashamed to show his grief. Unknown to him then, it was just the beginning.

*****

Philip struggled against the hurt and the memories. He stared out past the abbey, knowing that if the Wild Man had shown up, he would have helped keep his memories at bay. His absence fueled those memories, allowed them to surface. Philip had become attached to the man’s gentle voice, so like his father’s, at once.

With the Wild Man, he forgot, even for a short time, the guilt that engulfed him, that threatened to drown him like the cold murky waters of the northern marshes. His father had told him of men who dared to tread through those marshes. If they missed a step, they plunged down into the darkness, no saving breath possible, just a brief struggle before life left their bodies.

Philip felt like that when the grief overtook him, unsure if he would or even if he wanted to survive the next minute, hour, day.

He should have refused the Wild Man’s help and his company when he’d arrived in Pembroke. It had been a relief, though, to find a friend and a place to call home, even if it never would be.

The Wild Man had introduced him to young Prince Gavin, as alone as he, but in a different way. Gavin feared disappointing his family, failing them by showing cowardice in battle. Philip had formed a bond with Gavin those first weeks that helped them deal with their fears and doubts.

In time, Gavin introduced him to Bryan, the blacksmith’s apprentice. Bryan, sent away by his family to learn a trade, longed to be a knight, but he lacked the money and stature that would make it possible. And so Bryan dreamed of a life he would never have, could never have. He labored in sadness and silence.

Indeed, they all had their demons.

And Philip? While he had found a new family in his friends, he had chosen not to confide in them, yet. He was afraid of again losing those he had come to care about.

Mikey D. B. Shares 10 Things About #SagaoftheNine : #Area38 @mikeydbii #Thriller

3:30 PM Posted by Quality Reads UK , , No comments
Ten things you didn’t know about Saga of the Nine: Area 38

1) It was originally going to be a musical.  The album that inspired it, This is War by 30 Seconds to Mars, was intended not only as the frame work of the story, but the bulk of the songs as well.  I thought about seeking out Jared Leto’s help/permission to use his music and possibly add more, but things ended up turning a different direction.  It really came down to the fact that I didn’t think a musical would do the story justice.  I still listened to the album probably a couple hundred times while writing it, but the story is much different now than the original musical.

2) Mica and the USA Division were inspired by a date I took a girl on.  My date and I doubled with my roommate and his date, each got some masquerade masks, and then went to dinner at a fancy restaurant while we wore them.  Like I said, bizarre, but hey, something worked because my date that night is now my wife.

3) Area 38 is actually a reference to the 38th state of the United States of America.

4) The opening setting was inspired by the cold winter mornings in Utah.  I’ve been working the six am shift for as long as I can remember, and one of the joys about having to wake up so early in order to get to work on time, is it’s around the time that the sun rises.  The fog that covered the fields outside the industrial park were some of the most beautiful mornings I’ve seen.

5) Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor who played Sherlock Holmes in BBC’s Sherlock, is the person I pictured as I wrote and fine tuned Christopher Stone, the sadistic Area Leader of Area 38.  If he reads this, I hope he doesn’t get offended.  The way he talks in Star Trek: Into Darkness as Kahn is exactly how I imagine Christopher saying his lines.

6) I wrote the entire novel on the floor of my 500 square foot apartment--right at the foot of my bed.  I could only right for a few hours at a time though.  Any longer than three and my butt and legs would begin to go numb.

7) Saga of the Nine: Area 38 is actually a hybrid.  The entire plot began as two different stories.  Both of them were going nowhere, and one day I had the epiphany to combine the two.

8) Most, if not all, of my research for Area 38 came from listening to history podcasts I would listen to at my day job in the warehouse.

9) The flag on the cover was the brain child of my cousin, the cover designer.  The entire premise is that anything that is evil and corrupt usually isn’t original.  Evil simply takes originality and tweaks it.  That’s what the Nine did with the U.S. flag.

10) The foreign language in the novel is based off of Tahitian, which I picked up on my LDS mission in French Polynesia.

Saga of the Nine

Change affects everyone and it is no different for Jackson. Living in Area 38 for as long as he can remember, he knows of no better way to exist than under the tyrannical rule of Christopher Stone, son of Stewart Stone from The Nine of The United Governmental Areas, aka The UGA. This all takes a dramatic turn when Jackson finds a red, metal box buried in his yard, filled with illegal artifacts—journals, a Bible, CDs, etc.—that are from a man of whom he has no recollection of: Mica Rouge.

The year is 2036 and Mica, unlike Jackson, does know of a better way of life but is torn apart as he sees his country, The United States of America, crumbling from within by group known as The Political Mafia. The Mafia has infiltrated levels upon levels of governmental resources and it is up to Mica and a vigilante group known as The USA Division to stop them and their dark Utopian vision. To their demise, and at the country's expense, The Division fails and has no choice but to watch The Constitution dissolve and transform into The UGA.

In a final stand, having not given up hope, Mica and what is left of The Division, give one final fight in Colorado, or better known as Area 38. However, all is lost as The Division is betrayed by one of their own, Stewart Stone. Mica is left with no choice but to hide in exile, leaving what little history he can of himself and the great United States of America, with his wife, long time friends, and newly born son in hopes that they will one day finish what he could not.

Jackson, having found this legacy twenty-seven years later, decides to start the war that will end The Nine, and he with an outcast group known as The Raiders, begins his fight with Christopher Stone in Area 38. Filled with betrayal, unity, despair, hope, hate and love Area 38 follows both Mica and Jackson in their attempts to restore what they believe to be true freedom, and where one fails, the other rises to the seemingly impossible challenge.
