The story of Robert Munro isn't fiction. It's the story of every man and woman who has a family to provide for. The conflict of drawing the line and not bringing work home in a bag or in your mind. The juggling act that no one really wins in the end. Wife, child, self.

Of all the characters Dermot Davis has created, this is one that I connected with the most. Stormy Weather is a compelling story about a therapist who interprets dreams for a living only to soon realise he's about to become his own client. What a great premise. While the writing wasn't as sharp as Brain, it kept my attention throughout the book.

Robert Munro is as damaged as they come and was an amazing character in this quirky plot. Stormy Weather definitely managed to squeeze all emotions from me and that to me is proof of a good book. The old cat man says, young or old, you must read this book. You may not like the story, but you'll discover something about yourself.

Zany and original, that is the best way to describe this book. I have read three books by Dermot Davis and if I had to choose a a favourite, this would be it. Most of my favourite authors earn a place on my bookshelf if they have enlightened me or entertained me. Rarely do I meet one who can do both.

Brain: The Man Who Wrote the Book That Changed the World is the latest offering from Irish writer Dermot Davis, and speaking subjectively, this one does not disappoint. As with Zen & Sex he has his quirky main character but instead of focusing on angle of society, there is more than situation readers will be able to connect with.

Brain is loaded with hilarious, snarky descriptions that are so characteristic of Davis’ writing, and if someone dares you to read his novels without laughing out loud, don't take them up on such a bet. First time readers who want to discover Davis' work will find this to be a good read, once you get through the initial first few pages of "searching"which was a bit slow for me, everything else about this book is a page turner. Highly recommended.

Zen and Sex by Dermot Davis

It is easy to connect with Martin. If you are an older male, you would have felt like him in your younger days (as I did). If you are in your thirties or younger, you are probably going through a little of what he is experiencing and the waves of "will I ever find Ms / Mr Right" are bound to occur more than once.

The introduction was far more appealing than the conclusion. I also preferred the introduction more than the conclusion because modern couples will find it easy to understand and connect. The introduction of Frances worked to a certain point but felt that she could have been toned down a little.

In general, I felt enamored reading the story and didn't feel dull. Some situations in the book reminded me of Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck in Forces of Nature. Martin was a charming character to meet and adding Frances to the mix was a brilliant move to keep most parts of the story interesting.

If you want a light romantic comedy mixed with a story you feel you can relate to, read this book. Despite the word "sex" in the title, this wasn't a raunchy read or a book that male readers won't find enjoyable. It is entertaining in every sense of the word!
