If you could study any subject at university what would you pick? This time around I would choose writing. Funny how our perspective can change over time.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? Close to my family, wherever that may be. As it is, most of them live in Arizona not far from where I live.

How do you write – lap top, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk? I dictate the basic frame of the book, my wife transcribes it and then I go to work on it with my laptop.

How much sleep do you need to be your best? I need about eight hours and I believe most people do. I think a lot of people who say they can get by on less are doing just that – getting by.

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge and thank for their support? Yes, but the list is too long for this space. It consists of friends and family, and if any of them read this I hope they will know they are included.

Every writer has their own idea of what a successful career in writing is, what does success in writing look like to you? I’ll never forget the night at about one a.m. when I finished my first book. I remember very clearly realizing that no matter what happened, I would never feel a greater sense of accomplish and fulfillment around my writing than I felt at that moment. And I was right. If you write and do it the best you are able and you actually finish it, and you like what you’ve done, you are in a very real sense successful. After that, nothing else quite compares.

When you are not writing, how do you like to relax? I read or spend time with family members.

Do you have any tips on how writers can relax? In some ways writing itself is relaxing to me, but after a while the brain becomes fatigued. I recommend exercise to help put both brain and body in a state conducive to healthy relaxation, and then, for me, a good read and/or a movie with my wife works well.

How often do you write? And when do you write? How often I write depends on the availability of time, but when I can I write at least 5 days a week, sometimes 6. On Sundays I give body and mind a rest. I feel that is very important for optimal productivity.

Sometimes it’s so hard to keep at it - What keeps you going? Motivation has never been a problem for me when it involves something I love doing – and I love writing.

What do you hope people will take away from your writing? How will your words make them feel? I write to entertain. When I read a book and enjoy it I escape, for a short time, from the world and all its stresses. And that improves my life just a little. That is what I hope to give my readers.

What’s your favorite meal? Thanksgiving dinner; turkey, my wife’s dressing, and all the made-from-scratch trimmings she does. Yum.
