Author Interview – Julie Farley

What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general? Right now, finding time is my biggest challenge.  I drive kids to activities and every which way most days.  It’s hard to find a block of time to sit down and write. I can jot down ideas on my phone or random pieces of paper as I go through my day. It’s finding time for the big junks that is so hard.

Did writing this book teach you anything and what was it? I accomplished a huge goal.  I set my mind to it and completed it.  I learned a lot about the way I write best.  Turns out I like to have an outline and I thought I was more of a fly by the seat of your pants girl!

Do you intend to make writing a career? Absolutely!  Writing is my passion and it means the world to me that my novel has been well received by my friends and peers.  It’s hard to put your heart and soul out there.  You don’t know what people will think and thus far I have been pleasantly surprised.

Can you tell us about your main character? Heather is the main character in my book.  She is a widow with three children. Her husband died eighteen months ago and she is having a hard time navigating life with three kids without a husband.  She’s a natural klutz, beautiful but completely loveable.

How did you develop your plot and characters? I knew I wanted to write a romance about an almost 40 year old woman.  I have read so many stories with 20 year old main characters and I wanted to do something different.  When I created Heather in my head, everything else was pretty easy. I have a rockstar crush on Adam Levine and thought he would make the perfect male lead.  So I took a widow and Adam and put them together.  When I started talking about my Adam obsession, I realized that I was not alone and it’s been fun to talk about falling for a rockstar at this age.

Who is your publisher? My friend and I created our own publishing company, Perfect Mamas Press.  It has been an amazing experience thus far.  We intend to work with other authors and guide them through the process.  We have several potential clients lined up and we are so excited about it!
