Author Interview – Rechell McDonald

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? Definitely. It’s about trusting your instincts and standing up for yourself. It’s about accepting that there is much more to people than what you see and nothing should be taken at face-value.

How much of the book is realistic? I would say 80% I think falling in love so quickly is the biggest area where reders would need to suspend disbelief.

Have you included a lot of your life experiences, even friends, in the plot? No, entirely fictional.

How important do you think villains are in a story? I think they are the key. You can’t possibly decipher the goodness of a protagonist with someone or something to juxtapose them with.

What are your goals as a writer? I just want to write something people want to read.

Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)? Not currently but we travel cross-country once or twice a year and I use this as an opportunity to meet fans, sign books etc.

What books have most influenced your life? This is going to sound completely crazy but Twilight had a major impact on my life – not because it blew my mind but because it was the first romance I had read since Bram Stoker’s Dracula and I realized there was a GIANT hole in my life. That was about…four or five years ago.

Have you ever considered anyone as a mentor? No unfortunately I didn’t have many people that shared my interest in writing.
