When and why did you begin writing? When I was a young child, to express who I am, communicate to the world, transform lives (in subtle, but potentially overt, ways), and simply to play with the language, with words as my toys.
Have you ever considered anyone as a mentor? Everyone is a mentor in some fashion or other. We can learn from everyone and everything, even if it is by observing their behaviour as a lesson in what not to do. Teaching and learning never ends. Books are a big part of this, and pivotal to the advancement of humanity.
Who is your favorite author and why? That’s like asking a child to pick their favourite toy. I don’t have just one. Among the ones I enjoy the most I would include J.R.R. Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, and more recently Mervyn Peake. That is a list that does not do justice to my bookshelves, however, nor the hundreds of authors whose work earns a prominent place thereon.
Can we expect any more books from you in the future? Dozens, if not more. This is only the beginning.
What do you do to unwind and relax? Play video games. I like real-time strategy games, role-playing games, and platform games. Play is something that is vitally important to everyone, no matter the age. Like imagination, it is not merely the domain of the child, but that which can keep us ageless.
What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing? Writing is my dream, so I guess it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be? Life is here to be lived, not escaped from. Even in the “escapism” of fiction, we ultimately find we are exploring more of life’s many mysteries, creating within us a better understanding of our world. Just as we might immerse ourselves in a good book, we should ensure we also immerse ourselves in life and its many facets, and recognise and celebrate the beauty of existence. There is joy hidden in all things, waiting to be discovered.
