What’s your favorite place in all the world? High up on a mountainside, either hiking up or skiing down.
How has your upbringing influenced your writing? My heroes a really great guys, nice people, like my dad. There is usually one older couple, like my parents, God fearing, patriotic, honest and loving. My locations are primarily in and about the United States. My life has included many different experiences, from poverty to affluence, from countryside to cities, from outdoor camping to fancy resort areas.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated? From an early age, my parents read to me. Since then, I have always loved to read and to write. No matter what occupation or volunteer job I held, I always wrote whatever was needed. There were letters, memos, minutes, agendas, newsletters, as well as programs, plays, and presentations. I journaled for years and filled many notebooks.
What made you want to be a writer? That’s who I am. Ask me a question and I will start writing. Present a problem and I will start writing a solution.
What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general? Have another source of income.
Did writing this book teach you anything and what was it? It was from the research that I had to do to learn the truth about the horrible things that happen to poor, honest people traveling up through Mexico intent on crossing the border and entering the United States.
Can you share a little of your current work with us? Now I am focusing on marketing and publishing. I intend to write two books a year.
How did you come up with the title? I just let the problem “cook” while I am writing the book. At some point I just know what it should be. And then I check on Amazon to make sure my title will be unique. Marketing is so much easier, if my title is one of a kind. The hardest one was coming up with a title about the sacrificial love story I edited and published for Dr. Dale Williams. There were hundreds of other books with Love in the title. It had to be different, and it had to please Dr. Williams. I’m proud of the title, “Remember How Much I Love You.” It even came up in one review where the reviewer commented about how the title hit him when he came to the emotional moment where the title appeared in the plot. It was quite something, coming from a man. (Is that a sexist observation? Sorry ’bout that.)
